The price, properly explained
What nobody tells you before the quote.
Positioning
If the aircraft is not already where you depart from, it has to get there empty. That is a real flight, with fuel and operating costs, and it is paid for. On a one-way flight, the aircraft’s empty return is included in the price. It is the item that surprises first-time private flyers the most.
The aircraft class
A six-seat Light costs less than a fourteen-seat Heavy. The choice depends on the route, the number of passengers and the luggage. I always propose the right class, never one bigger than necessary, unless you explicitly ask me to.
Handling and airport fees
Every airport charges its own fees for the private terminal, parking and ground assistance. In the proposal you find every item written out in full, with no hidden costs.
Crew waiting time
If the aircraft waits for you at the destination for the return, the crew stays on duty. Beyond a certain number of hours, the crew’s overnight and travel costs are added.
How to keep the cost down
Flexible timing, a nearby alternative airport, a positioning flight already on your route. They are called empty legs: empty sectors that other passengers have already paid for. When one matches your request, I propose it to you.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book?
Four hours in Europe, if the aircraft is already nearby. For an intercontinental flight, or the islands in August, a week ahead is better. Passenger names must be given two hours before departure.
Special luggage?
Skis, golf bags and hard cases go in the form: I choose an aircraft that takes everything.
Can I bring my pet?
Yes, but it always has to be stated in the request, with species and size. Not every operator accepts animals on board and some charge a cleaning fee: I choose an aircraft that takes it and I write any cost into the quote. I tell you at confirmation which papers the destination requires for the animal.
Can I smoke on board?
Only on some aircraft and with the operator’s authorisation. It has to be stated in the request: most jets are non-smoking, so the choice narrows and there can be a cleaning fee and a deposit.
What is an empty leg?
It is a flight the aircraft makes anyway, empty, to reposition towards the next client, and that can be bought at a reduced price. Date, time and route, though, are fixed, and the flight can fall through if the charter it depends on changes. Finding one that matches your trip is not frequent: if your dates are flexible, mention it in the request, and I let you know when a suitable one comes up.
